The story follows Takemichi Hanagaki, a 26-year-old who feels like a complete loser. He works a dead-end job, and his life is generally miserable. One day, he learns that his middle school ex-girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, and her younger brother Naoto have been murdered by the notorious Tokyo Manji Gang (Toman).

The next day, while waiting for a train, Takemichi is pushed onto the tracks. Just as he's about to be hit, he suddenly travels twelve years back in time to his middle school days in 2005.

Realizing he has the ability to time-leap, Takemichi decides to use this second chance to save Hinata and change his own pathetic future. His method of time travel is triggered by a handshake with Naoto in the present. By traveling to the past, Takemichi gets involved with the Tokyo Manji Gang during its formative years.

To prevent Hinata's tragic fate in the future, Takemichi must rise through the ranks of Toman, confront its internal conflicts, and ultimately change the course of events that lead to the dark future he knows. He encounters various charismatic and often dangerous members of Toman and other rival gangs, navigating the complex world of teenage delinquents while trying to alter the timeline for the better.

As Takemichi jumps between the past and the present, he learns more about the formation of Toman, the relationships between its key members like Manjiro "Mikey" Sano and Ken "Draken" Ryuguji, and the events that lead to the gang's eventual corruption. He faces numerous challenges, betrayals, and dangerous situations as he strives to save Hinata and his friends.
