A man has concluded that nothing matters. He buys a revolver, sits down to use it, and — because a small girl stopped him in the street that evening and he was cruel to her — falls asleep first.

In the dream he shoots himself, is carried through space, and arrives on an earth exactly like ours where no one has ever sinned. He is happy there. Then, simply by being himself, he corrupts the whole planet. He wakes convinced he has seen the truth, and that the truth is a rule a child could follow.

Twenty pages, written near the end of Dostoevsky's life, and one of the most concentrated things he ever produced.
